Christiane Grauert is an American-born illustrator and pop-up/paper artist who grew up in Germany where she studied Illustration and Graphic Design at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. After her graduation she moved to Minneapolis, MN where she received an MFA in Visual Studies from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She now lives and works in Milwaukee, WI and teaches as a Professor in Illustration at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.
As an illustrator she combines hand-drawn imagery, found textures and materials with a digital collage approach. Her mixed-media images have appeared nationally and internationally in numerous publications, on book covers, posters and cards, as well as in textbooks and children’s books in Germany and South Korea. As a pop-up/paper artist she engineers her mixed-media images into pop-up constructions and explores the dimensional possibilities of paper. Her work has been featured in various national and international illustration and design competitions as well as exhibitions.
She is an avid traveler and takes a sketchbook on all of her trips.
